Someone on 14ers.com notified us all that Rocky Mountain National Park moved the Longs Peak webcam to a much much better location. This motivated me to work on a little project that I’d been wanting to do for some time. I wondered how easy it would be to write a script that would grab a photo from a website automatically (essentially a web scraper that would download a photo at a regular interval). Turns out it was relatively easy. It only took me about 20 minutes. Below is a time lapse of the images taken every 10 minutes from the Longs Peak Webcam between January 5th and January 15th (I left out the night shots because you can’t see anything). It turned out pretty well. I plan on letting it run all winter an putting together a longer video as well.
